Memories

Well, seeing as I will be in bed when SL goes live [cries]... I thought I would reminisce a wee bit.

I registered back on the 30th June 2001, as soon as I could get my hands on the game.

My first char was.. a Nanomage NT. He got to level 6, got stuck in a wall (which broke my heart) and stayed there for over a year. :)

My second char was an Agent called Vhairi. What I loved about AO was the exploration and wonder.
I remember the first time I saw a Virulent Minibull South-West of WA. A few of us hardened vets (hah!) were in a team and fresh from a few minor successes we thought "no problems!" Well... we were pounded.
My ego took a dent and I vow I am going to exterminate every bull ever sired by that evil bugger!

Back then it was bot mountain, OT camps in VW, Snake pit, Rhino camp in VW, Reets/Shades/Vultures and Temple (not TotW) in GTC, Cyborgs in Avalon, Bullies, Claws (PM) and lots of others. We roamed the breadth of Rubi-Ka to hunt our prey and it was FUN.

The first time I got a Yalmaha I must have been 70ish, maybe even 80-90. It took me several weeks of non-stop blitzing and selling to save up for one but boy was it worth it! (I wanted one ever since Azzazzimon gave me a race in VW and beat me.. even though I had snared myself multiple times for insane run-speed).

Then I took retirement for a while, eventually coming back as Rahmorak. I must say Home missions are a game-breaker. Tedious but a necessary (?!) evil.

With the release of Shadowlands I am hoping that that for a time at least AO will once more be aflush with adventure and exploration and the feeling of the unknown. So.. I recommend that if you want to REALLY enjoy AO avoid any guides you might see for a while at least and just EXPLORE.

Rahmo.

What a wonderful post :)! Yes......who can forget the days when it all was shiny and new....and any encounter possibly a fast road to reclaim.
Those days were truly the best AO could ever be, despite the many flaws and bugs....somehow in restrospect they dont seem so bad :D. I remeber sights and places, that left me awestruck......I remember being yelled at by Hejiro and Felicity for getting lost in NLD, having NO concept whatsoever where I was...do you all remember the weird zoning issues we had there? I remember parrots with heads......wow......so many things..but most of all I remeber all the good times we have had up to here, the laughs and the sad times when we saw friends departing.

Id like to raise my glass to ppl like Archm, Zarchari, Tripe and Mchaggis, Ginaboo........Isalunam, Uglas....TGB.....gah....Maulin...Bluemeenie.....Dmetria...dang, good times

Final glass is raised to Cerberus, and our upcoming journey together....it might be hard, but lets try our damndest to keep it fun and help each other!

Then of course the not so good:

Made the mistake of saving at the scanner in MMD. Died, reclaim, dead. reclaim, dead, reclaim, dead. reclaim, dead... and on and on and on.

People would camp the reclaim shooting you as soon as you appeared, before you could even move never mind resurrect. On this particular case after 10-15 minutes of this I had to quit the game and come back a few hours later when they had gone. Boy, was I pi**ed off. :)

Still, the good more than outweighs the bad, shame most people who joined in the last year or so have probably seen <20% of the playfields.
