what to do?

Hopefully i'll be returning to AO soon, and since Fixers are still broken, i'm considering starting a new character. I have played everthing except keeper to around 40-50 but not higher. I'm leaning toward Adventurer, Soldier, or Keeper. Help me out, what do you think is the most useful in SL (both solo and in teams) and the most fun in SL?

Woot, I was first to vote!!! yyaya!! well I voted for a Keeper, I haven't played one, but seeing as Foe does well in SL with all his Heal Auros too.. he's a great team guy... eer gall... err what ever the troxes are. :D have fun.

I voted something else :)
Why?
Because I usually find it more challenging and rewarding to play a class that's considered 'less easy'. Admittedly, SL can be very frustrating at times for the classes least suited for 'uber SK teams' or soloing, so I understand why you consider those professions you listed.

If I were to start another char as new 'main', I think it would be either Crat or MP. Crat because there are too few of them and they are always wanted in teams, while they are challenging and excellent for soloing. Useful at many high level raids too. MP for the total self-reliance and great playability in SL. Downside for MP is all the time spent buffing others ;p On the other hand: no time spent buff-begging :)

vote ... something else ....why... *points up on Smac's post :P
But for the proffs u listed i would go Adv for all the fun of shape shifting and good healing, damagewise you might not be the sharpest tool in the shed in SL but with Acrobat perk and bio shield do u really need ubhaaaa damage :P

I would go for adventurer. Not only a great prof to play in SL and to play solo. But it seems that every mob dropping something usefull is equipable by an adventurer. I startet an adventurer pre SL so I would have something to play, since fixers got hit with the "your not welcome here" bat. Its fun to play and you got the best from both worlds. Healing and damage. Teams will want you and you get to do more than just press "q" and lean back. As for damage, I seemed to do pretty good damage with my desert reet pistol from formans. Fling and burst with the occational 5% extra fire damage.

BUT from what I heard this weekend, when a fixer reaches lvl215+, they get pretty good at tanking  So if you got the stomack for it, then keep at it with a fixer, once your over lvl215, it will get fun again :)

I disagree with Addice, hehe! Playing Mamasboy is a blast to me..he is a soldier by the way. Other than that, I would also agree with Selavi. The fixer is a profession I have teamed a lot with in SL. Cogs and Foxferal are a notorious pair, and we have done most anything together. What it comes down to is your playstyle, and Foxferal with his fixer dances tango thru SL. So...its in your attitude and playstyle. There is no profession that is gonna give you an *easy* ride......in my experience they all require their own special kind of work.
I also agree that sometimes the more difficult classes are perhaps more rewarding then others, just for the sheer challenge of it.
That said, I guess an Adv is a pretty safe bet, but ultimately its gonna be up to your stamina. Every prof reaches that tough spot :D

I tend to disagree with Addice, too. I am playing a soldier and I am haveing great fun in the SL. But I still have voted for Keeper. Why?

Addice has a point when he says soldiers are not the most fun class up there. A soldier in SL only starts getting fun at higher levels. The whole equipment is horribly expensive and/or uber rare.

As for soloability: Soldier is NOT the way to go there. Due to the insane HP levels of SL mobs, your lower TM Shields tend to run out before you have softened the mob up enough... *thwack* *thwack* Hello reclaim my old friend....

I have Keepers outperform a lot of people in SL. That class looks like fun.

I voted other, go for a doc, we need more high level docs ;) Or a shade, they are ridiculously powerful in the dmg stakes...

As to Crat/MP being difficult classes, I'd have to dissagree, once upon a time maybe, but not nowadays... pet professions, especially Crat/MP, are a very good solo prof to try... You can't move in OA for em ;) Least thats my impression...

As to Fixers, no matter wot others say, imho they are 'nerfd' and pretty much at the bottom of the dmg table... but then we're not supposed to be about dmg, more a support role, but even the support role has been degraded a lot in SL... (On RK fixers still pretty much rock ;) ) Yes there are examples of fixers (like Fox) who with lots of time and effort overcome or rather play around/put up with our problems... but the vast majority are struggling (read our prof board for proof)... Then again, with a permanent engi in tow, most professions would fare quite well ;)

Anyway, the game is about fun, so just do wots most fun to you... if thats playing alts for a few days or whatever, do it.. your fixer aint going anywhere (unless you delete it ;) ) ... and you never know, we might get some luvvin eventually :D

By 'less easy' I meant more challenging during play, i.e. more commands to issue (macros, nukes, weapon specials... makes it more hectic), more work keeping track of pets and positioning them optimally, finding the best mobs to charm. Basically, less straightforward than runing up to a mob hitting your attack button and tap your specials keys once in a while ;)

Ah gotcha Bot :D yes, indeed, more variety to playstyle of those profs...

Uber damage is nice, but i'm used to doing average damage. But what really gets me about the nerf is i'm convinced FC changed the mechanics of evades. Pre SL i could solo level 200 borgs by kiting in my CDS armor, after shadowlands, even with evade perks i have trouble with orange borgs.

It was an intended 'fix', the agg/def bar was changed to have a more pronounced effect on your being hit chance... to quote the patch notes from SL launch,

The aggression slider (also known as AggDef, or Def / Agg slider) now has a bigger effect on defensive skills.

So, guess it now depends a lot on where you put your agg/def slider... u doing the kiting on full def?

Indeed, Before SL at full def, the mobs missed me about every other shot, after SL all I notice is my gun is slower. Perhaps FC didn't mess with the evades...but as i remember they tweaked the mobs to go "beserk" or something.
