The 80ish radio

Postby trgeorge » Sun Aug 14, 2005 2:07 pm

It's one of last summer evenings. Outside is raining heavely, will probably resolve in local floodings. And yet it's still warm. This is my 3th night shift in row, one more to go. Brain operates on "other" frequecy...Can't say it did shut down, just severly limited it's working on concius level and kicked in overdrive in more subconcius, drifting state...

There's compilation of 80ish songs playing. Nothihing specific, from Madness to Opus, from Denise Lasalle to Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Work keeps me busy, but it's nothing special, My thoughts drift freely...

And then it stucks me, it would be fun to make radio playing 80ish tracks...not just songs, but news, commercials, talk shows, the whole lot. To buy off some 80ish radio achives and air it...just repeating original program on matching days.

Whole thing could sponsor itself from those old comercials, provided enough companies are still in buisness and their products in stores.

I'd love to tune in to a station like that, but I hate all commercials including the 80s ones so I dunno for how long I could stand it ;)

Not too much 80s music that I like :) but I'd be surprised if there weren't already a station like this. Have you browsed Shoutcast (or other sites like it)?

I'm sure there probably are such stations out there. At least on net. Well, probably they are.

But I'm talking about local station, with actuall FM frequency here...with all the costs and limitations it brings. Well cost would oly increase by renting frequency and seting up antena& transmiter....Limitations being mainly how good signal is and if income from comercials would actually cover the cost.

This shouldn't be viewed as comercial project, more like a hobby. If you play 24/7 old tracks, you have no way of contacting audience and vice versa. But just doing it for your own sake...well you can transmit emergency test signal then and save some costs. Becouse no company will pay for old commercials to be played if there isn't any audience.

Oh a *real* radio station. Sorry, I immediately thought Net radio. :)

Do you have community radio frequencies that people can apply for? But yeah, like you say, the main initial cost would be the transmission equipment. You'd probably want to find an audience too. :)
