Agents vs. Soldiers

Ok...I've got two choices. Become an agent, or remain a soldier.

I cant decide, if I stay a soldier, ill have the advantage of being lvl 24....but...GAH! I CANT DECIDE!

Ok. Volais, I want him to be a gun user. Also, theres a part in my story that involves him leading an army(Of what i dont know) In a battle. So he needs to be a profession who you could see in a good leadership place.

The soldier fits the whole, battle part...but the agent fits another part when he goes off on his own for awhile.

Ok...now that the roleplay side is outta the way...gameplay side.

The soldier...well...they are somewhat boring. I do enjoy that I can put out a good amount (Well...I dont know what a good amount is) of damage, and take a good amount of damage. But....thats all a soldier does...fight.

On the agent side. Its a sleek profession. I like those rifles, and the agents are supposed to be the best damage dealers after SL gets ahold of the servers. The thing is...its just not, heavy firepowery.

Im so confused...give me your insights on the whole thing...i know you think im stupid for going back and forth so much....but..I cant help it

well I don't know if this gonna help since I never tried to be a soldier cause I thought it never would appeal to me, but I have tried the agent and found that it wasn't made for me that either, I hatet beeing an agent. :)

But look at the other side an agent can work magic since he can become every profession at any time and any time of the day, If and when u want u can get into that soldier uniform and lead the troops into battle, u can go ahead infront of u'r men and dodge the bullets while hammering down the defeating enemies, and after or under battle u can make u'r men belive u'r a doc healing up theire wounds while battle is still going hard. And who knows what abilities u could do if u put the heart into it. :D

Humm, yep Fp and mimic are okay as agent abilites. From a game play stand point the aimed shots for dmg are nice, but draw alot of aggro. Which can result in a agents death as I have one and am realizing and am, realizing from teaming with Lea where she hits really hard and I sometimes find myself caming the mob to get it to aggro a pet.
A soldier is a solid class, a pure ranged tank. But as with any class at low levels they way ips go you have to sacrifice certain abilities and specialize others until you get to the popints where you have a title cap on skills that allow you to build other ablities.
Honestly at my level I perfer a Soldier at times as a tank to a Enforcer, the shields are nice..let them take a beating. And there buffs, oo love soldier buffs.
While a agent as a pvp character is nice. my agent as it is not really a class..not in a pure form will not be taken out but for little pvping at MMD.
My opinion stick with soldier form a solid main, as the ip thing will not get better for a bit..and you are not going to be able to cast all nanos, use uber guns etc till you get some game play in.
For awhile my crat had little points in evades, no points in weapons..and could use a quality 20 stim..at level 78. Can't start uber any class, so juts got ot bite the bullet for awhile till you get to where you can get your points.
Guess my view on it is, well find one you like and run with it..but will not always be a satisfactory character. Used to be with my crats evades if you sneezed on him you could get a crit with it..Talen was Sneeze shot for 245999 crit poison dmg.
Yah just got ot find one you like and run with it, who knows maybe you may like a caster more. Maybe a duel wielding ADV who can heal..You may even like a Doc, team heal..heal..heal..nano, team heal..heal.
So I suppose you can try a agent, can't say which is better. The better be what you prefer, and want to take time to build. But I always say take what you got and run it into ground, as ips get more, respecting is a option, and FC always adding more stuff.
Though if I did a soldier again would make a opifex, who later could duel wield..Cold Lasers ( muhahahah, 44-444(444) Cold AC).
But anyways you pick what you want will help yah get the things you need to build the guy up, get you up there so you can team my nano Enforcer, Shukurimu ( Cream-Puff in japanese), but of course I will require a bride of 12.78 mill in creds to be directly deposited into my account, atleast 4 days in advance of scheduled team event.

Something to consider about the Agent.

What are you REALLY gunna be...a Crat. "Hey, FP Baton!!!". Solo you may be an Agent, but if your smart, you'll prolly go MetaPhys. MP yourself a tank and a healer, Then hide send in the tank pet, AS when its half dead and move on.

In a team, ya, your a Crat, so you need to think about your imps. How hard is that when your just 1 prof, now you gotta spec your imps for 3 or more classes...that MUST be a pain.

One final thing, getting a team...ya, 170Aget LFG....whatever. As a doc at SG I made the teams, and agents were NOT in them. To much dmg and not nuff hps for me to bother trin to kep them alive. You not a good Crat cause you dont calm or use the pet, so....what good are you...FP Baton...thats it...sorry.

OK...sry 1 more thing.....you got enuff money (or time to blitz) all the nanos for ALL the classes???

Something to consider about the Soldier.

Well, your a solly, no prollems there...strait forward Imps, strategy, and task...DMG.

Solo, prolly, never tried ... team, HELL YES.

AAnd Finally, your at SG LFG, ill pick you over anything but a NT. Optimal SG group?...DOC/NT/DMG/DMG/DMG/DMG.....gimmie a NT and 4 solly, shows over in an hour and everyone lives np. (ill take ADV's too  )

*note: if ya dont know SG = South Gate (tir) FP = false Profession

** Sry all you Agents out there...never tried the agent, but they do make good conversation, and thats what im able to gather from them..............
if ya every payed a doc...you'd agree, to squishy...my job is hard enuff

Well.... ok, here goes. Agents are fun, they truly are. I don't really know where to begin because I started as agent and Jpegg taught me everything there is to know about all the other professions. I'm still as addicted and in love with Rubi-Ka as the first day I spawned nekkid in Tir BY1 almost 2 years ago.

Bear this in mind though.... you will not be able to enjoy the fruits of other professions until level 150. Until then, your init is way too low. False prof is useless apart from buffs, assume is just as useless until you reach 900+ in nano C init anyway and then just when you get a taste of mimic profession, its TL5-6 title cap time and you cant even use them without mochies. It takes a lot of planning to be able to get the most out of other professions and gets complicated. Not trying to put you off agents, these things just aren't as straight forward as you progress, thats all.

As far as your story goes about leading the army and going off on your own. I am currently in the middle of a Rubi-Ka novel about my agent. I've used certain aspects of the game and included explanations within the story. Within my story, Jpegg meets certain key individuals who teach him certain skills. This explains the levelling senario. He practises with these people, an adventurer in order to percieve things better, being taught how to morph with the help of the nano crystal, taight how to fly etc. An MA who teaches him his evades by training him. The false profession soldier can be the drive behind your character's leadership maybe?

This leaves your agent to be able to move away on his own as an agent.

One more thing, my girlfriend laughs at me because I am always looking at Jpegg in game, changing his clothes etc. Vanity goes a long way with me, call me insane but it's important to be seen by others as smart, even in game. What better profession for this than agent and from an RP point of view, your agent is a roleplay goldmine.

As far as money goes for all the nanos for all the classes... sneaking is relaxing. You can eat your meals while walking through a mission, stop in front of a Real Mean mob while you chat to guildies or eat dinner. Grab the item and reckless digitisation out of there as fixer. Every nano crystal will be free for levels much higher than you. Even to begin with, when your conceal is low, f/p advy and leet form is +200. Sorted :)

Agents are way cool :)

Pfft! No need... level 156 solitus soldier here... tonight I will equip the dual Cold lasers.

About the soldier:

I must say that the longer I play, the more fun becomes my soldier. It is a simple class and, tough you have a huge choice wepon skill wise, it will boil down to the classic soldier weapons. Always raising them will mean that you will be a bit gimpy in the nano department. With everything midnigt blue there you will have to be patient until you can use the hallmark nanos of the profession.
On the other hand, Soldiers do not only make good Damage dealers (and I always laugh my ass off when I fight a melee mob, shooting, running around a table, shooting again, running around a table, seeing that enforcer or MA chase me around, flailing around with his mace or quarterstaff), but offer great roleplaying opportunities. See, I am head of member services in my guild. I play Sidarion as a hard and somewhat stuck-up drill seargeant towards the applicants. In the general guild environment, I am dutiful and expect my orders to be followed. Well, my guildies more often than not make me look like a buffoon which often entails one of my legendary shouting outbursts (Full metal jacket voicepak? :) ). On the other hand, Sidarion is a multifaceted character who is very cultured in his private life, which he doesn't openly share with subordinates. There are a lot of stories in the background and he is somewhat of a counsellor to people who need an unbiased opinion. So... RP wise, I couldn't be happier, since I don't need to muddle around.
I don't know about the agent... I am always a bit sceptical about people who have to rely heavily on nanos while still doing there damage with guns... this is somewhat sitting inbetween two chairs. NT's do nanos, soldiers shoot. Between those two extremes, you have a couple of professions that mix these two concepts in one way or another. I agree that I sometimes miss the ability to sneak or blitz missions, and trust me... Guns and stuff ARE expensive, but I nevertheless, I would feel uncomfortable, doing 10000 pts AS damage only to discover that I have only 3000 hp and no way to shake the aggro...
I agree that I like the RP opportunities an agent does offer. The problem is, far too little agents out there actually LIVE their profession... sneaking about, infiltrating Omni territories, assasinating people... Most seem to be content to sit on their butts and not ENACTING their profession.

But in the end, it is your choice. Having played a soldier for 7 months now, I can say that I am really happy with the profession... soloing sucks, I agree... but teaming is just that much more fun when you can shout at your teammates who are about to go down: "Run for the elevator, I cover your backs!" and slapping your Total Mirror Shield on to, your gun blazing, the roar of bursts of super heated plasma echoing off the walls, to take at least one more mob down before making an exit... 3 more mobs hot on your heals... I just love these moments...
