...to do nano crystals?

It seems like a very complicated procedure. I've tried, but failed when I realised I didnt have the appropriate skills to make them.
Cogs, can you tell me how to, and what skills are needed?

Hmm.. Techomo gave nano creation a go once. Requires things like Mech Engineering and Chemistry and stuff. I remember he got a doctor or a meta-phys to do one or two of the steps in the process.

But one of the main problems was purchasing the tools to actually do it all, as the latter stages require VERY (very very.. well, for lvl 62 anyways) expensive equipment.

I don't remember the specific skills needed though.

First I'd like to ask if youre really serious about making nano crystals, Big?
For an Atrox type, its a majorly expensive task, ip-wise!
Well, to make a nano crystal of ql100, you would need Mech. Engineering at about 480, Elec.Engineering at same, Quantum Field at same, nano-programming at about 500 ( I may be forgetting something here). These skills also depend on high Intelligence. The task of creating the crystal itself isnt that complex, its mostly a matter of combining the correct items in correct order. You will need a few tools, to among other things transform carbonrich rock into a form that can be transformed into crystal matrix that can then be transformed into a Prepared Program Crystal, which in turn will accept the nano matrix. To create a nano matrix you use the instruction discs we find in various places. There are different schools of matrix for the vaarious nano types, like PSI, Combat, Protection, Space and Medical, if I remember correctly.
Carbonrich rock can be harvested at various places like Avalon, Southern Foul Hills, 2Ho, etc. They come in various ql's.
Id strongly recommend you do not try to make Big into a crystal maker, all the skills you need are of the dark blue type for Atrox, ip much better spent elsewhere. Now, if Membank was to do it, that would be a different story. If youd like to discuss it, lets get together on-world, and Ill gladly help you find the tools of the trade, and advice/help on the creation process. I even think I have a shitload of lower ql(30-50) carbonrich rock that we can use to experiment with :)
Prices on the tools you will need have dropped drastically! When I bought them(a looong time ago) they set me back 1,5-2 mill!!!!! Now you can get a decent set for about 20-25k!! Damn :)
Tools you will need are : Jensen Personal Ore Extractor, Isotope Separator, and Neutron Displacer. All found on left side, second floor, 3d booth in Trade Dept.

Wowzers! If the tools are that cheap now, I'd better have another look. I have one or two work-in-progress nanos.

Techo also has a backpack full of carbonrich rock, QL 1-70, if you need any. Hej collected them way back. Protected by *shudder* Chaos Minions if I remember correctly. But shouldn't be a problem at all with a yalm.

Thanks for the info Cogs and Hejiro. No I do not intend turning myself into a crystal manufacturing complex. The idea was to let Membank sort of specialize in nano programming and making crystals. I might even create a set of matching implants in the future to better his abilities in making such things. Being a nano breed NT he would be most suited for a task like that.

Weeee! Those tools are cheap now! Techo needed to purchase two -- one was 5K the other 100K... not bad at all.

So last night he completed his first crystal :) ...And sold it for 193 cred :x

Still, it's a lot of fun and he actually found he had one instruction disc that can't be bought in shops (a fixer one). Unfortunately he didn't have any carbonrich rock at the right QL -- turns out his bag of rocks was QL 1-39. So now that I have a yalm I went off on a collection mission right into a Chaos Minion nest and collected another bag -- of QL 37-108!

Skills needed are Mech and Elec Engineering, QuantumFT, NP and CompLit. All the parts to make a crystal are now cheap too... Techo's cost around 3K for a QL17. Considering loot-only discs start at around QL90, they would be hard but cheap to make and sold for a LOT.

My attempt at creating a nano crystal of half decent level (QL50) was short lived due to certain skills not being maximised.

I reckon if Membank aimed to specialise in this stuff, he/she would have some real fun, and when high enough level would be able to create some much sought-after nanos -- both for guildies and to sell for a fortune. Go for it :)

Nice. The only thing he can't do at the moment is getting those carbonrich rocks. I'll go look for them and then transfer them over to him. Any good locations? He's just level 30 so I guess up to that level rocks would be nice to find.

I got lots of rocks, but they are all around q190-220. I guess thats a little to high?

I would say so, yes :) Wel.. I guess he can use them for his lowie nanos, but that would surely be a waste.

Hehe, problem is he wouldnt be able to convert rock of that ql :)
You need a high np skill for that

Actually, converting rock involves three steps. Rock into ore, ore in some carbon crystal, then that into a program crystal.

Anyways, the BEST guide that describes the whole nano crystals creation process is here:
http://www.virral.com/guide-crystal.html
(I always need a guide as I never remember wht the steps are ;) )

And locations of rocks:

Thanks Hejiro. I cant understand why people use google, yahoo or other such pages. The only thing a dude needs is his own Hejiro to fill his days with marvellous links to useful pages :p

Is Hejiro Pro 1.0, compatible with Family 5.0? I wouldn't like to get divorce 1.5 just because I install Hejiro 1.0...
