Dont wanna bust anyones caps here, but this has been a problem forever!
Ever since RKFF was first started, back in July 2001, getting ppl to read and keep updated on forums, attend meetings, in general showing an interest has been a major problem.
Some of the oldies from those times here will probably remember how I used to bitch about it in meetings, etc......but nothing ever helped.
I think its something one just has to face.....those in leading positions in any guild will be the ones active on forums, be the ones actively trying to attend meetings; the rest are just fillermass......taking an interest when and if it benefits the individual. There are of course some exeptions to this.

This may sound harsh, and unfair.....but years of experience tells me this is the way it is, and its gonna take some damn hard work from regular guildmembers to tell and show me otherwise.

A bit harsh.

I usually read up a lot, but post when I can contribute (well sometimes I just post :)) I think quite a few is like me.

But I agree that forums is always an issue. Some people don't think they add much and don't like reading them. They prefer to log into the game, rather then spend time bubbling around the forum.

Best way to reach people is probably the news headline you get when you log into the game. That does req. it to be constantly updated. If there is nothing new for weeks, people stop looking at it. I never do, as it is usually a comment that doesn't say much or is placed that just so there should be something :)

Hehe, mr.docjjones, as Im not active in AO at all anymore, I dont think Gaupa's original post was targeted at me.
My understanding of his intentions with the post is to gauge responsiveness and alertness as to what is/can be happening in the guild.

One can choose to regard "fillermass" any way one wants to......its a negatively laden word, but unfortunately that is how I have come to look at it.
Any guild will have approcimately 1/3d members that takes an interest in the guild, and its development. The rest are more or less just along for the ride, and do not wish to take an active part in anything, apart from gaining phats and lvls.
Just look at polls posted.......guild has lets say 100 members. At best, 20-25 will reply.......this isnt true for polls only, but even major issues concerning the guild.

Pft, this is actually the "check how fast Cogs posts" thread, I just mistyped the topic :-''

14 different people had replied to this thread, and some of them are not even in Cerbs anymore.... I'm pretty sure Cerberus has more active members then that :?

I couldn've had the first reply, but as I don't play AO I refrained from commenting.. even for trolling points

I was joking but just a reminder not to tar all us members with the same brush
I have been a member of cerbs for a relatively short period of time (thanks jasp for ninja promotion) so I probably haven't earned the right to comment.

I personally try and catch up with forum topics at least once per day and when online, I will help out where required and participate in as many org events as possible.

Perhaps I’m in the minority of members but from what i have seen of cerbs so far, everyone online is pretty active and always up for doing things together.

That’s why I think Cerbs is a strong guild but perhaps it does lack active forum members. Carmens comment on the !news headline is good. Certainly events like meetings or major raids could be posted up there and would be a good reminder for us all what is coming up over the next few days….

DocJJ, this isn't and never will be how long one is in guild. Either you're member or not, in good and in bad. And even so we try to include "outsiders", be that ex-guildy or just friend.

Personaly, I'm not too keen on !news, since it's harder to keep updated or it can get spamed with nonsence.

I feel about same with polls...I check them and if I feel it will afect me or that my vote can contribute to something, I take part. If I'm indiferent, I stay away.

I'm not concearned about members not posting, in principle. They might feel same about that as I do with some topics or polls. But with members playing at different times, forums is only way to keep everyone updated. How many times I have heard "there was a X raid? Why didn't anyone tell me? /goes off to sulk " or "Meeting's almost over? Where is it?".

This is just an example....MissC raised concearns about new members. She felt members have no say in accepting or declining applicants. Such section was set up, with some delay and now everyone is afraid to post or they don't care. But as said this is just example. No officer would be against members taking more active role where and how is this guild run. Be that raids, suggestions, geting new applicants, helping out, etc...

So if anyone thinks he/she might have something to say that would help us in any way, they are encouraged to post. Be that suggestion or criticism. But yes, we need more active readers, if not posters, for any such thing to happen.
