Shadowlands preview movie

Postby Flameforge » Fri Apr 11, 2003 3:19 am

I found this from an Italian AO site, and had no idea what it was, but now having downloaded and watched I can recommend! It's a movie of the work-in-progress Shadowlands showing landscape, characters, and armour. Runs for 5:11 and is 41.3MB

Yup...movie looks good. But, Im a bit disappointed that they could not show the new monsters and example characters in the game footage itself. Means that they might not yet have implemented them into their working version of the addition. Which again means its a long way off.
Still, impressive work, and Im definitely looking forward to it :D
Shadowlands is one reason why I keep working on Cogs to get him to 200, as I wanna reap the benefits of SL and the new Robots we engies will get there asap, hehe. I already have the name for Wheels ready, the one he will be using in SL, lol.

Yeah, the "new monsters" section was pretty lame. It's odd though, as screenshots FC have released had a monster or two in them.

The shadowbreeds looked pretty cool, but I still don't understand how they fit into the scheme of things. Your actions are supposed to change your shadowbreed appearance, but when do you look like that? Wouldn't you always look like your normal solitus/nano/atrox/opi form?

Remember too that flying will almost be removed from the SL, and then go look at those playfield shots again... should be quite interesting :)

When you enter the shadowlands your visual apperence will change. Omni's will look more demon like while the clans will look more angel like. The video shows a consept on how it will be.

So what's the point of all the new equipment? You only get to see that stuff when you're on Rubi-Ka?

The new items will only work in the shadowland, if you bring them to rubi-ka they won't work. Same goes for most items found on rubi-ka.
This means that you can be very good on rubi-ka but realy realy bad in shadowlands.

Okay, so in this preview movie they show new complete outfits on solitus figures. You're saying this new stuff will only work in SL and saying in SL everyone appears as their shadowbreed (variations of redeeded/unredeemed)... so how can solitus run around in the new armour?

I'm obviously not understanding something in how this'll all work. I have a feeling that everyone in SL will appear just like they do on RK, but if that's the case then I don't understand when shadowbreeds will be seen.

I understand your furstration, Flame..lol. I dont think any of us should pretend to know how this will look and feel until we get some pic and movies to show what we can look forward to.
I agree, FLame, that not being able to fly, and the new landscape types will make for an interesting tactical change :D ...at least I hope so.

On another note, the SL expansion will prolly be a hog systemwise!! As far as I know, they are quadrupling the number of polygons graphically.
How this will affect an already stressed system....heaven help us all!!

Yes, I guess Funcom are still working everything out themselves. I should have tried to ask about this shadowbreed stuff at that recent Q&A thing.

I did notice mentions of increased polygons and texture qualities too, which worried me a bit. I upgraded my system just recently and AO runs "acceptably".

I was doing many blitzes the other day and got to a point where I was having MUCH trouble just moving around, with frame rates dropping to about 4 for short periods of time. As I was quitting for the night, I looked in Task Manager and AO was chewing up 850MB of memory, and all RAM which meant it was trying to do lots of virtual-mem swapping causing hard-drive thrashing and therefore low frame rate! Gah!

I may have to install more RAM for SL, haha

Did you see the screenshots in that IGN Preview #9? That had some in-game fighting, but what was curious was that there were rather large monsters and a little person... and also what looks like a shadowbreed fighting the monster...

Gee... wish I could find out more :)

They must have monsters and stuff working, because FC will be at that E3 expo which is coming up and then going in to beta.
